June 2006 pool, parties, potty

Escaped for the night to Mexico with my husband. It has been awhile since we had some one on one time without an interuption. Mexico has and I hope always will be our getaway haven. We have been going there since we met and 10 years later we continue to go. I have to say the rolling hills albeit trashy and rundown on some and the acres of oceanfront property are harder and harder to come by. Now it is overrun with model homes previewing the next 50 for sale on empty lots soon to become built and highrise condos right on cliff of which I question the safety. I have to take a time out to mention or maybe question what the thought process behind building in Mexico is. If you go there you know what I mean, if not well...there are buildings be it homes, hotels, stores that either appear half done, or maybe they were destroyed...They sit lonely and deserted like images out of a ghost town and there are some that people actually do live in which is a sad thing-although I don't think they know the difference but that is a whole other blog item.... anyway we drove and I realized the farther past Rosarito we got that so much had changed. It is becoming a lot more americanized and I think that takes the ultimate thrill of going there away. Mexico was a third world country where you felt a lil rebellious and maybe slightly daring to not always know how your trip would go although always wanting only positive things to come from it. Somehow the newness, the structure and order in what before was a sloppy, chaotic place seemed somehow disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I still love the camping at our favorite camp although now there is never a weekend it isn't full and it costs10 more dollars than it used to....I still love the restarant and bar...now bars so there is more than enough liquid libations to satisfy the pickiest of people...and I still love the people who when you act like an ass whether it be they are making a buck off of you or you are buying their crap they welcome you with open arms like family. So will I go back...for sure. Has it changed.....for sure. But the motivations and familiarness remain which is enough reason to keep the tradition going. Viva Mexico!
Also aside from a getaway....with Cameron, being that it is summer we took advantage of some time in the pool and even went to Elizabeth's house for a pool party! We went to Grandpa/ma Skime's and Cameron loved playing hockey in the garage with grandpa Larry. We went to Mission Bay to go to Chase's bday-was fun for us but lots of work for them....they are great hosts! Cameron loved seeing all his buddies and I laugh when I look around at how our "parties" have changed....kids everywhere! Cameron has been using the potty chair at home and doing so well. He is doing great at school too-monkey see monkey do....thank god for school!
